Bloody

It's really peculiar to me that boys and men generally enjoy (or appreciate) action movies/ graphic violence and sex, yet, no boys or men seem to have an acute interest in menstruation. Isn't that like...mixing the two interests into one super interest? Apparently not?

One boy who makes period jokes/ wrote me a letter this week

It's hard to do this backwards.
You should try it in heels.

Fun Run? (Part I)

Well, so, um. Well. Uh…Okay. So. Yeah. I—

Okay.

Went on a run Sunday morning. Bright and early. Saw not a soul. Decided to make my way up to the beautiful Point: overlook pictured below.

July 2010, Pookie

After huffing and puffing on the steep run, I finally reached the miraculous view…and there were people...uh…um…doing it! There! Like, right at the look-out! Bam!

I felt pretty awkward. They definitely knew I was there, but were so beyond uninterested in stopping their fun. I tried to make the best of it. I walked the other way. Looked at the view over there…I was determined not to let them ruin my hard work. But, frankly, the damage was done. It was time to go.

I thought about going up to them: HEY. YOU RUINED MY RUN.
But, then I shut off my camp counselor brain and came to my senses.
I left quietly, grateful for my run anyway.
Why not be?

Loving you’s like cherry pie.

Small Act of Love for Our Earth

Last Month. Hello Northern Michigan.

Just purchased a chocolate cherry cheesecake milkshake at the cafe I am currently sitting in. Right before the barista went to make it, she dropped the plastic cup on the ground. She reached for a new one, so I said, "Oh, use it anyway."

When I look down I miss all the good stuff, and when I look up I just trip over things.

Greenlake

My dad just sent me a care package of silly camp things including a new book by Louis Sachar called Stanley Yelnat’s Survival Guide to Camp Greenlake. It was a breezy read. I mean, I read Holes in 5th Grade, and this was its gimpier younger sibling. It was a smattering of recap from the book and little short stories about the characters with some unfitting information shoved in. Naturally, I put the book down and immediately asked, “Louis Sachar, why would you write such a stupid book?” I loved Holes. Like, still, I pick it up from time to time and get totally diggin’ on it. So…why follow it with drivel?

I don’t think I’ve ever finished a piece of art. For real not a one. I’ve been published, but I’ve never felt like those poems, essays, whatevers were perfect. I’ve had performances I have been proud of, but there is always room for improvement. I’m not actively working on most of my projects at 90% completion, and sometimes they then have to exist that way forever. My performances now captured on DVD—can’t change those. So, maybe…Louis Sachar wasn’t ready for Holes to hit it big, to become a movie, to become his claim to fame. Maybe he has thought of these snippets he wishes he had added. Maybe he has been thinking about them for ten whole years, and he just couldn’t take it anymore.

LZ 2010--Object Dance-Off

But, it’s like when you’re really in the mood for something to eat. Say quesadillas. But you don’t have tortillas, so you just eat crackers and cheese, but it’s not cheddar. It’s swiss, and that’s not ideal. And now you’re full, but you actually just want the quesidilla, but now, even if you ran out to a Mexican restaurant like you should have in the first place you’re uncomfortabley full of cheese. But, you’re not happy. So you eat the strawberries you were saving. But, that is not settling. So, you eat some chocolates. And a Twizzler. And, then, you just want to puke. And you’ve suddenly downed all your ice cream. And you should have just stuck with the decision you initially made instead of junking it up.

Easy for me to say.

They say the meek shall inherit, you know the book doesn’t lie. It’s not a question of merit. It’s not demand and supply.

Billy the Kid + Wendy

August 2008, Chicago

Watched St. Elmo's Fire last night. I have no idea why I love The Brat Pack so much. That's all to report for now.

So I guess the fortune teller's right,
Should have seen just what was there and not some holy light.

Although I Am Grateful...

Mouse has it so easy

Some things I would really like right now:

-Some delightful fare--a caesar salad or some eggs benedict (I am hungry hungry hungry today)
-Guaranteed dry bed
-Unsandy feet when getting in said bed
-A bug zapper
-A clue about the big picture of my life

I know if I knew what my life is going to hold I'm sure I would be overwhelmed, depressed, or bored because...well because that's how it is for most of us. I'm sure if someone showed me my life now five years ago I would have burst into tears. I'm sure I didn't do things I thought I wanted or did things I thought I didn't want. But, I could comfort my past self by saying, "Oh, but you'll be happy!"

Which, I guess, I already do know about the next five years. So. Um. Got it.

Someday I'll wish upon a star and wake up where the clouds are far behind me.

Splash Happy

Well, we've reached a new low Ladies and Gents. Cried during Toy Story 3 today.

Cute summer mems:

Cocoa with her nature class

This morning Tacos was working breakfast. TACOS! I exclaimed. TACOS GOOD MORNING! He smiled wide. You look so happy, I said. You look the happiest. Are the happiest? What's there not to be happy about? He grinned and grinned.

I say love, it is a flower, and you its only seed.

Hairy

Swim Meet of Kay's while visiting Ms. Blitzkrieg, 2008

It's always my dream, MY DREAM to have long flowing locks.
(When I have short hair.)
But, then, it starts to grow out...and then it's annoying...and then the locks don't even look that good on me (see photo). I think I'm going to have to chop it all off. Yup. Bye. I hate you, hair. I don't care what promises I have made.

Oh, you know, the grass. It's greener. Something.

Anyway, I'm sitting outside at The Cherry Republic, basking in lovely summer air, grateful to have my broken camera healed, and with great company (Cocoa and Kay) wishing using the internet was fun like it was my first year on staff. Now it's just depressing to come online. It's all big kid stuff. This blog is my only consolation, so thank you, readers, for that.

There are bridges you've crossed you didn't even know you crossed until you crossed.
